Then, we were thankful for the combatant the snowfalls of '02/'03 provided against the consistent drought condition in our region. No worries this season! But, along with the urge to push spring forward, we have a new element of concern that did not seem as prominent - snow damage and recovery in the landscape. In an effort to salvage many "landscape" plants, great care must be taken during the recovery process. Refrain from removing snow and ice from plants as greater damage may result and significantly reduce survival chances. Although it may be clear in total loss cases, most landscape plants can survive with proper pruning techniques. Be patient in your efforts, especially if you are not properly equipped. Allow ice and snow to dissipate naturally to the point where proper pruning, maintenance, and removal techniques can be performed.
